The types of information we collect can vary depending on your relationship with us (customer/prospect, employee/applicant/contractor, or agent/district manager).
A) Consumers (customers and prospects)

We may collect similar categories as above, including (where applicable): identifiers, characteristics (including protected-class-related info where permitted), payroll/tax/banking records, benefits info, work history, performance history, browsing/device data, geolocation, call recordings, education background, inferences, and sensitive personal information (e.g., SSN, ID numbers, account login, precise geolocation, bank account).
C) Agents, district managers, and their staff
We may collect identifiers, personal characteristics, commercial/financial/tax records, biometrics (e.g., fingerprint), device and system usage data (including Farmers® email and system entries), geolocation, recordings, professional licensing/certifications, contract/performance information, education level, inferences, and sensitive personal information (including SSN, ID numbers, account login, precise geolocation, and financial account details).
2) How we use personal information
We use personal information to offer, provide, maintain, and improve insurance products and related services.
A) For consumers (customers and prospects), purposes include:

Sale/Sharing under California law (CCPA)
In the prior 12 months, we have not sold or shared personal information to third parties as those terms are defined by the CCPA.
5) SMS/Text messaging privacy

SMS consent is not shared with third parties or affiliates.

Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with or sold to any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of text message services (only as needed to deliver texts).

No mobile information will be shared with or sold to third parties for marketing/promotional purposes.
6) How long we retain personal information
We retain personal information as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described above and to comply with legal/regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
7) Your California privacy rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you may have the following rights (subject to verification and legal exceptions):
Right to Know / Access
You may request information about our collection and use of your personal information over the prior 12 months, including categories collected, sources, purposes, categories of third parties disclosed to, and (as applicable) specific pieces of information. You may make a verified request for access twice within a 12-month period.
Right to Delete
You may request deletion of personal information we collected and retained, subject to exceptions (e.g., servicing policies, handling claims, setting premiums, compliance obligations, dispute resolution).
Right to Correct
You may request correction of inaccurate information (e.g., name spelling, phone number, address, email spelling).

Authorized agents
You may use an Authorized Agent. We may require a notarized affidavit (sample available via the CCPA Web Form) or a valid power of attorney.
Verification
Verification typically begins with name, address, phone number, and date of birth, matched to our records. For requests seeking specific pieces of information, you may be asked to sign a declaration under penalty of perjury.
Our response timing
We aim to respond within 45 days, with a possible additional 45-day extension if needed. Responses are provided by mail and cover the 12-month period preceding receipt of the request.
Do Not Sell/Share / Right to Opt Out
We may use cookies/pixels and similar tracking tools; certain uses could be considered a “sale” under CCPA. You can opt out via browser/device settings (including Global Privacy Control) and by managing cookie preferences through “Your Privacy Choices” at the bottom of our webpages (toggle sale/sharing preferences and save).
If we share information for cross-context behavioral advertising, we will update this policy with specific opt-out methods.
We do not share personal information of consumers we actually know are under 16 years of age.
8) Financial incentive notice
The Signal Rewards Sweepstakes promotes awareness of distracted driving and may be considered a financial incentive under CCPA. Participation is also governed by the Signal Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and TrueMotion’s applicable policies where relevant.
9) AI and automated decision-making notice
We may use AI systems and/or automated decision-making tools to enhance quality and efficiency in operations such as marketing, underwriting, pricing, policy service, administration, and claims.
10) Security and website/app activity
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information to employees who need it, require safeguards against unauthorized access/use, and require confidentiality standards from vendors.
We may use encryption on public portions of our websites and up to 2048-bit encryption on other portions (typically where personally identifiable information is entered).
When you use our websites, we may log IP address, browser/platform type, domain names, access times, referral data, and activity while using or reviewing our site.
11) Cookies, interest-based ads, and location-based services

Interest-based ads may be served based on browsing/app activity, cookies, beacons, or mobile advertising identifiers.

Cookies and web beacons help customize services, measure traffic, and optimize advertising. Information shared for ad measurement may be anonymous/de-identified and not personally identifiable unless you provide identifying info.

Third parties may collect online activity over time and across websites. Data provider cookies can be opted out at aboutads.info/choices.

Location-based services may use GPS/Bluetooth/IP and related tech to estimate location. Unless you consent, location data is collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you.
12) Third-party links
If you leave our websites/apps for third-party sites, their privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices, even if our name/logo appears on those sites. Please review the privacy statements of sites/apps you visit.
13) Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we collected it, we will delete it as soon as possible.
14) Changes to this Privacy Statement
We may update this notice at our discretion and will update it no less frequently than annually. Continued use of our sites/apps after changes are posted means you accept the changes.
